Meet The Brothers

Our knives are born from a high end piece of bar stock and end as a brilliant and complex master piece. Each knife is uniquely designed with complementing features and accessories. Creativity is key

From different types of file work down the spine, bevel profiles, unique handle configurations, and as always a custom matching sheath. Our blades are not just hand finished, they're 100% MADE IN AMERICA.

Alex Ponikvar

Alex grew up always wanting to build things and he did just that. No matter what, he was happy as long as he had some tools in his hands. His experience and knowledge began at a young age while working in his father’s machine shop. Over the next seven years, Alex not only advanced his creative knowledge but developed a unique vision. This vision required the use of more specialized tools such as milling machines, surface grinders, lathes, and even a crash course in welding which led to the creation of Brotherhood Blades from his home-grown passion.

At the age of fifteen, crafting knives was an instant passion for Alex when he completed his first knife. This was one of those experiences in life that leaves a mark on you. However, this day also literally marked Alex with a scar above his lip. While grinding a nearly finished knife, the blade of the knife struck him in the face, leaving a lasting impression. This experience only strengthened Alex’s passion to enhance his skills and create unique knives.

Alex continues to experiment with different techniques and color/material combinations to consistently deliver the "Wow" factor in all of our knives. He strives for perfection and considers "handmade" a fading but critical skill of art that introduces inimitable characteristics in every knife. Alex is currently a full-time law enforcement officer alongside Matt, at the same department they were both hired by after graduating from BGSU. During their off time is when Alex and Matt get to work on creating pieces of functional art.

Matthew Lawrence

Matthew has been a part of Brotherhood Blades for a few years helping on his own time, but joined the crew full time in 2020. Since joining the the team, he has become an integral piece to the brand. Matthew works hand-in-hand with Alex in the shop and assists with designing, grinding, file work, custom handle construction and any other facets that make our knives one-of-a-kind. Matthew has always loved working with his hands and creating pieces of art from raw materials. We at Brotherhood Blades are happy to have him aboard and can’t wait for everyone to see what he creates along the way.

Matthews favorite blade is the Clēv with his trademark snake, spine work sporting a Micarta and ODG handle with a black Split and liner.
